Overcome Pain - Pain management
Pain follows a pathway from the injury or illness to your brain. The pain signals pass through gateways in the spinal cord. So when you stub your toe, the pain message goes up the spinal cord and into your brain, where it is evaluated and reacts immediately. That's the point when you shout 'ouch'. This type of pain is acute and usually temporary and is designed to get your attention.
There are many conditions that create pain and sometimes this can lead to chronic pain. Chronic pain is usually longer term and more complex. Reactions to chronic pain can be affected by your previous associations with pain, how family members have reacted to pain and if you are stressed and worried. If you feel despairing or are not coping too well with the pain, the pathways to the brain allow more pain messages to go through.
HYPNOSIS CAN HELP YOU
* Regain control
* In some cases be completely free from pain
* Direct attention away from the pain
* Directly focus on the pain and reduce it to a manageable level so that you can have a good quality of life, even with a chronic condition
Most people are unaware that hypnosis has been recognised as an effective form of pain management in the UK for over 100 years and today . Hypnosis is also used by many doctors, dentists and other qualified medical practitioners across the world.
Whilst the use of hypnosis in childbirth is well known, its most startling medical use is in replacing general anaesthetics during surgery. This technique, known as hypno-anaesthesia has been practised for more than 150 years. One of the early pioneers was James Esdaile, a Scottish surgeon working in India in the 1800's who performed hundreds of operations quite painlessly, using hypnosis alone as an anaesthetic. He recorded that fatal surgical shock or post operative infection occurred in only 5% of cases compared with the, then norm, of 50%. Some modern studies show that hypno-anaethesia patients recover from surgery more quickly than other patients.
So why is it that people seem to feel more pain than others? A large part of the pain we feel is our perception of pain, and while some people naturally have a higher tolerance of pain, we can all learn to reduce or even get rid of pain by changing how we think about it. For example, one of the most effective ways of doing this is to just focus on something else, to be mentally elsewhere and so fully engaged in this process that the pain is no longer felt.
As part of our work together , I will show you how I use hypnosis and other techniques to manage your pain. We all know that when we put our minds to it we can accomplish great things, and in the case of pain management, this is so much easier to do with hypnosis. You have nothing to lose and much to gain if you give it a try. Give me a call on 07845 291437 or e-mail [email protected] for a confidential chat.
